We did manage to grab the nightcap tri at the Meadowlands -- but it lacked value. What hurt was our three near misses where we ran 1-2-4 to just miss the tri. At Belmont and in the Calder Derby if ours can get up from fourth to third, the gimmick wouldn't have been huge, but it certainly would have helped the bottom line. The race that really caused a sting was the QEII at Keeneland. We had an 11-1 over a 4-1 for a nice backup exacta of $168.80/$2. Our fourth-place finsher was less than a length back at 9-1. The tri paid over $1600/$2 and ours would have been more.... Doh! That close to a nice afternoon.

Otherwise, four winners on top in twelve races, all pretty chalky (Belmont, $3.10; Calder, 3.00, 4.00, 2.40). The top pick ran second in four other races, including a controversial no-DQ in the QEII at Keeneland. We had one cold exacta (Calder, $14.80/$2) and a mix of some other backup exactas throughout the card.

Kicken Kris...First or second in all six tries since moving to grass. G1 winner. Good tries at 10F seem to indicate he should handle the distance.
Devils Peak..."Hidden" half of Clement "entry" might be ready for this assignment. Has been improving over the summer and might add some value here. Low percentage jock is a big concern.
Go Deputy...Lightly raced and improving from Pletcher. Would rate higher if regular jock were aboard.

Maiden Tower...These Euros have a tendency to come over and dominate the hometown turfers -- and this filly is a solid 7-5-2-0, including a G2 win last time.
Ocean Drive...Only non-exacta finish in seven tries was a ship-out west last year as a 2YO -- otherwise career has been bang-up.
Indy Five Hundred...Win in a G1 at Belmont last time was eye-popping. We get a better idea today whether that was a sign of improvement or a fluke.

Win's Fair Lady...Disappointed in graded company last couple -- but back at a track she likes and a level she should compete at.
