Coast-to-coast

Five winners on top in seven races (Tampa, 3.60; Fair Grounds, 5.20; Oaklawn, 5.00; Santa Anita, 3.60, 2.80). But then things just worked against us...At Aqueduct no excuses, the race set-up well for ours and they just never gave us a run. At Gulfstream we had three of the top four -- but not the place horse, so we didn't collect on the gimmicks. At Tampa our key horse won easily but our second pick (after scratches), while closing well late, can only manage third at 13-1. Again no gimmicks. Fair Grounds was, frustratingly, more of the same. Our top pick won while our second choice was nosed out of the exacta. We finally managed to cash an exacta ticket when our top pick bested our fourth choice for a $52.80/$2 payoff. But that was too little too late and we weren't helped at all by the short fields at Santa Anita which forced us to make a stand in both SoCal events and it was more of the same as our top pick won both but we couldn't manage to fill the second spot.

Again, solid picking on top -- but frustrating gimmick-wise.

Literary Light...Last sighted in a stake as a 2YO in 2001 and it wasn't much of a try -- but she's been going well since arriving in NY last summer and looks capable of sitting just off the pace and making the first move in the lane.
Honest Deceiver...Ships in off a decent sprint stake win at Turfway for Walden.
Shawklit Mint...Maybe the sloppy track was an excuse last time although she's gone well on off tracks before...The start prior is too good to ignore but just can't help but feel shaky about the last.

Sweettrickydancer...How long can she keep the streak going? Well the only bump in the road today is the change in venue -- otherwise this one isn't much different than the last two stakes she's won.
Devil At The Wire...Has taken a liking to the turf and if McPeek filly can get a trouble-free trip for a change she'll be even tougher.
Askforaraise...Third behind the top two picks last time in Oaks. Why not again?

Ebony Breeze...Mott filly adds a furlong today but won so convincing here last time that she's the one to beat.
Final Round...Last spotted finishing third in a G3 at Keeneland which probably gives her a class edge on the Florida west coast. Beyers are a little light but they often take a nice step forward as 3YO's.
Splasha...Makes stakes debut but most of these aren't world-beaters. Seems to have really gotten the hang of it the last few tries at Calder.

Candid Glen...Doesn't show a real affinity for this particular track but hate to leave a hard-knocker like this out of the mix.

Beau's Town...Off since finishing fifth behind champ Orientate at Saratoga last summer but 1/20 work indicates fitness and trainer show decent stat off the bench. 3-3 over the track. One-hole is a concern -- but worth the risk if this one turns out to offer value as the second or third choice.
Cojet...Likely fave after stakes win last time at Fair Grounds. Iffy over this surface however.
That Tat...Another coming off a layoff -- but has same trainer as top pick, still showing decent stats off the break.

Kafwain...Never thrilled by a route-to-sprint move but Baffert's BC Juv runnerup should have a class and experience edge on these.
Runnin' On Nitro...You gotta like the fact that they coaxed Mr Chavez out west for a return riding engagement -- although he was hurt in a spill in FL this week so keep you'r eye on changes to see if he's still listed onboard. Regardless however, the move would seem to indicate that this one is well-meant today after romping in MSW last time.
Southern Image...Won debut nicely and place horse that day came back to win next-out.
