2-10. Still light in the winners-on-top department - but heck, if they can be two like this everyday we wouldn't complain. We hit our Sheppard Special of the meet with the winner in R7 [$44.40]. Also a winner in R9 [$4.70].
Finally broke through with a decent price. If we haven't noted it earlier on this page I have talked about it a couple of time on Capital OTB-tv - by this point in the meet I've usually had at last two or three decent prices - but this season they just haven't gotten the job done, although we've had a handful that looked good at the top of the stretch. So it was nice to see Sheppard's Hedonemewrongsong - at 21-1 the second-longest price in the field - make a winning move in the lane under Rosie Napravnik. A late move by our "D" pick , also 21-1 Coarsegold, gave me a moment of worry that yet another price play would fall just short - but our pick was resolute and besidesthe nice win price, the two longshots combined for a very juicy $454.50/$2 exacta - all of which played out to great results over on the Bankroll Challenge page.
Closing week kicked off with a crowd of 12,819 and they enjoyed yet one more exceptional weather day - sunny and warm.
Racing Fan Q&A: The New York Racing Fan Advisory Council will hold a public Q&A session with David Grening of the Daily Racing Form. The Q&A will be held in the Carousel immediately following the day’s last race at approximately 6:30pm
RACE ONE
Extraextraordinary...Might benefit from the cut back in distance.
Sermon of Love...Could have a class edge on this bunch.
Bodie Island...Probably better than latest.
Saint Dynaformer.
Rainiero.
RACE TWO $75K Mrs Jeffords
Cat Feathers...Won a similar event last time - why not a repeat?
Cubist...Sheppard runner back over the jumps after two flat tries at Delaware.
Euro Power...Perhaps ambitiously-placed off of the maiden win - and finds it no easier today. But we'll hope she benefitted from that one and goes better today.
Well Fashioned.
RACE THREE
Archwarrior/Tizracer...High buzz for this Pletcher's Archwarrior. Have to admit that the win-early breeding is OK - but really doesn't jump off the page at me. But, it's a Pletcher 2YO. Sire is OK but not stellar with first-out winners. Dam also OK - sib Perfect Edge won debut - but then finished seventh in next two.
Buddy's Tiz/Buddy's Smart...Buddy's Smart is slightly preferred. Sib Summer Laugh won first two starts including a stake.
Unlikely Scenario/Overnight Trading...Unlikely Scenario preferred. Klaravich 2YO sale purchase -worked 10.1 before auction. Sib Aspiring won second career start.
Transparent.
RACE FOUR
Ottaviano...Full-sib Smart N Pretty was a debut winner - in 2005. Went on to be stakes-placed. Maybe - in a race with no standouts.
Glorious View...Could be the best of those with experience.
Villanesca...Win-early sire and connections - but the dam has yet to get one to race.
Royal Rhiannon.
Colonial Empress.
RACE FIVE
Lady Rizzi...Likes this track. Had a little trouble last time. Can rebound on the class relief.
Sounds of the City...Will be tough if able to carry Monmouth form north.
Margaret Lilian...Stepped it up nicely with first start on this strip. Horse-for-course?
Giant Sleep/Sly Warrior.
RACE SIX
Agualinda...Dominguez. R Dutrow. A sire that is OK with firsters. And a sib, Three Day Rush, that ran 2nd, 4th and then broke his maiden in a stake in his third start.
Chifa...AE. MSW to mdn clm.
Nodebtdanny...AE. Solid in debut.
High Inflation...Worked 10.2 before sale to Klaravich. Moves from MSW. Sib Stefanelli was a second-start maiden-breaker. As was sib Catfish Hook. Dangerous and can better this rating.
Flash Fever.
RACE SEVEN
Change of Command...Fits on numbers - but might have a pace edge to boot. Speed from the outside.
Quantity...Been off the better part of two months but this Brown trainee is likely to be very tough.
Lea...Lightly-raced but has shown flashes of talent.
Best Actor.
Bluegrass Summer.
RACE EIGHT
Live Life Fast...Kind of hanging our hat on win-early sire Bernardini. Trainer and dam not known for first-out success. But - this doesn't look like a field of world-beaters. We'll see...
Accomplish First...On the flip side - sire isn't getting out of the box particularly fast - but trainer and dam OK. Sib Verbosity was a first-out winner.
Discreet Marq...Comes out of the salty Effie Trinket race.
Copper Bluff.
RACE NINE $100K Equalize
Finale...Off since December but Could come back with some added maturity and the works indicate readiness.
Yari...The one to catch?
Artest...Could be interesting in third start back.
Csaba.
Film Shot.
RACE TEN
Charming Kitten...Pletcher/Ramsey runner looked good in debut win. Worked well for this. Right back.
He's So Fine...Could be interesting on the stretchout.
Joha...Solid number in lone turf try.
High tail.
Craving Carats.
RACE ELEVEN
Vicola...Ran yesterday - likely scratch.
What'smineismine...Interesting on the drop and the move from PID.
Marcy...Improved since the move to this level.
Crypto Kitten...Also ran well at this tag last time.
Irish Wedding.
She Gets It.
