Mariano Rivera at Saratoga Race Course: Saratoga Race Course will host arguably the greatest closer in baseball history when Mariano Rivera visits the Spa for a series of events. NYRA will name the third race 'The Spa Welcomes Mo!' in honor of Rivera, who will appear in the winner’s circle to address the crowd and present the trophy for his eponymous race. The race will go to post shortly after 2 p.m. Rivera will also meet Saratoga’s top jockeys in the paddock for a photo opportunity during the day and will spend the afternoon watching the races from the venerable Spa.
National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame: Saratoga's feature race is the G2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame for 3YOs on the turf. It will follow the induction ceremony for the class of 2012 into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame. This year's inductees are jockey John Velazquez; trainers Roger Attfield and Robert Wheeler; and thoroughbred Ghostzapper. The ceremony will be held at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion at 10:30am. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
Hall of Fame Autograph Signing: Saratoga Race Course will host an autograph session with various Hall of Fame personalities on-track next to the Jockey Silks Room from 2:30 to 3:30pm. Racing fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from a number of Hall of Fame jockeys and trainers, including Chris McCarron, Janet Elliot, Carl Nafzger, Randy Romero, Ron Turcotte, Eddie Maple, Roger Attfield and Jose Santos.
FIRST RACE
Beer Is Good...Has run well since the move to turf sprinting.
Decisive Move...Has high-speed and like the top choice seems to appreciate the grass sprints.
Tightend Touchdown...OK try when moved to turf.
Shotinthefog.
Everyday Dave.
On dirt: Tightend Touchdown, Devoted Wildcat, My Man Dan, Decisive Move, Heron Lake.
SECOND RACE
Sharon Spaghetti...Has some interesting breeding. Sib Dylan Dangerous was third in debut and won next.
Westerday...Sib For Wes took five to win but was 5-1-3-0 to that point.
Effie Trinket...Had fastest - 20.3 - work prior to auction.
Hidalgo Legacy.
Discreet Marq.
THIRD RACE
Temecula Creek...Last few haven't been inspirational but might rebound on the class drop.
My Man Marty...Wired 'em in latest at Belmont. Class is the question mark here.
Regal Strike...Ran well on a class drop last time. Now moves up slightly but has some back numbers that are good enough here.
Metarus.
FOURTH RACE
Haldane...Full sibs Organizer and Dr Vs Magic were precocious and stakes winners. Trainer does well second-time out.
Islarama...Ran well when last seen on dirt.
Kellster...Could go well in debut.
Typhoon Teri.
FIFTH RACE
Coconut Shrimp...AE. Seems well-meant from Repole/Pletcher.
Sunset Time... AE. Has gotten some good experience for Ward and could be primed in first try on grass.
Insolvent...A Klaravich 2YO auction purchase - always dangerous. Got some education last time.
Indian Splendor...Improved in second start.
Worthwhilepursuit.
Jonata.
Runway Ready.
Elusive Fate.
On dirt: Same plus Endless Chatter, Miss Mischief, Cindy Says.
SIXTH RACE
Yes It's Pink...AE. Debut was one to build.
Crypto Kitten...Clunked last time - but previous starts good enough.
Mela Dramtically...Was perhaps a little too close to the pace last time - but preferred come from behind style is not working well on this course. Hmm.
Hey Little Girl.
Bunhead.
Crafting.
SEVENTH RACE
Weekend Hideaway...By Speightstown this one is meant to win sooner rather than later. In front late last time but caught - well ahead of third-place finisher that day. Goes half-furlong less today.
Horatio...Asmussen good second time out of the box.
Richiesbronxbomber...Improved nicely to just miss last time.
Tweet Me.
Shot rock.
EIGHTH RACE
Saratoga Snacks...Seemed to confirm 2YO promise with solid win in 2012 debut.
Manteca...Hard-knocking 7YO is dangerous on best effort.
Law Enforcement...A Saratoga stakes winner - could prove interesting on the move in for a tag.
Wee Freudian.
NINTH RACE G2 $200K Hall of Fame
Daddy Nose Best... Tend to think stakes-quality dirt runners have an edge on their turf counterparts - IF they take to the grass, and this one already has a proven grass record.
Skyring/Optimizer...Both halves are eligible - but many waited for Optimizer to get back to the grass. That came last time and could set him up nicely for today.
Csaba...Might be interesting if able to shake loose.
Yari.
TENTH RACE
Notell...Tepid vote in an open race. Angle I like is the move from NY-bred alw to open clm.
Beautiful Affair...Strings a couple turf sprints together.
Elusive Jozi...Seems in good form.
Flying Sappho.
On dirt: Same plus, Sansannah, Natalie Victoria, Miss Woods, Cat Ferrad.
