Yesterday

1-10. Yeesh - it was a struggle yesterday. Winner in the 5th [$3.90] with our third pick there completing the exacta [$11.20/$2]. The highlight of the day was a C-B-D-A ["A" top pick, "B" second pick, and so on] finish in the 7th. At prices of 8-1/8-1/5-1/3-1 the payouts were generous for the exacta [$191.50], tri [$1346.00] and super [$3440.00]. Otherwise there wasn't too much to write home about on Wednesday. A couple of double-digit odds winners bookended the day - in between we were looking at 8-1, 6-1, 7-2 and so on. Not impossible to come up with - but it's hard to string together too many third-, fourth- or fifth-choices in the betting. Hence the $17K P4 and $470K P6.

13,991 attended. Weather-wise it was sunny, warm and humid.

Today

Mid-Summer St Patrick's Day: Saratoga Race Course will bring horse racing fans a little extra luck during the fourth annual Mid-Summer St Patrick's Day. All fans who wear green will receive free grandstand admission. The day-long celebration of Irish culture and heritage will feature traditional food and drink as well as Irish music, dance and entertainment.

FIRST RACE
Bodie Island...Sheppard runner was on the flat as recently as March. Latest shows he's figured out the jump game.
The Price of Love...Another Sheppard trainee - this one find class relief here.
Mabou...Winner of last year's jump G1 here - raises question marks going for this $30K tag rather than the stake one race later.
Trippo.

SECOND RACE - G1 $100K Smithwick Mem
Nationbuilder/Divine Fortune...Divine Fortune preferred as the 2-time defending champ of this race.
Left Unsaid...Jump stakes winner has to overcome the layoff but suspect Voss will have him ready.
#1 entry... Via Galilei is preferred off of the good form this season.
Country Cousin.

THIRD RACE
Joe Vann...In for a tag. Fire sale? Maybe - but he's still probably better than these.
Tap Attack...Hasn't really had a sniff of a top spot in awhile - but the number last time showed some life.
Dreaming Blue...Maybe has just gone in the wrong direction but could rebound with class relief in third start of the season.
Tuvia's Force.

FOURTH RACE
Slumber...Euro-import was OK in G1 HOL Derby. Might be even better as a 4YO.
Slow Pace...Another with Euro-talent and has run well here.
Barocci...Has a nice closing kick.
Kindergarden Kid.
Grip Hands.
On dirt: Arthur's Tale, Keep Me Informed, Bombaguia, Slumber, Slow Pace.

FIFTH RACE
Picture Book...Trainer and jock are both hot at the meet. Dud with trouble in debut but expect better on the class drop.
Caution Sign...Also moving MSW to mdn clm.
Irish Wedding...First off the claim for Rudy.
Street Dreams.
Vicola.
Sindhu.

SIXTH RACE $100K Birdstone
Isn't He Perfect...Two solid efforts when Dominguez was last onboard.
Alma d'Oro...Capable on best.
San Pablo...Could be the one to catch.
Gallant Fields.

SEVENTH RACE
R King of the Road...Might have a pace advantage here.
Winning Touch...On the improve and should be primed in third start back.
Tahitian Warrior...Had promise early in the career and is eligible to rebound.
Leave of Absence.

EIGHTH RACE
Sheerflakesofgold...First start at the meet was a near-miss in a similar event.
Proud Dame...Like the move from NY-bred alw into open clm.
Forever Vow...Repeat of speed-pop two back would make her dangerous.
Spelling Test.
On dirt: Same plus Private Counsel.

NINTH RACE
Smokin' Alice...Might benefit if speed-duel develops.
Irish Exchange...Might be hard to catch if able to sneak away.
Sly Warrior...Could hamper Irish Exchange if sent from the rail.
Garnet Street.

TENTH RACE
Inaugurate...Long time since the claim and comes back at a reduced price - but will contend if all the wheels are on.
Steal the Dance...In for a tag.
Julep Tulip...Right there in last two.
Street Savy.
On dirt: Same plus Malibu Holiday.

ELEVENTH RACE
Notacatbutallama...Worked 10.2 before sale. Sib Toque won second career start.
Archer Hill...Sire is off to an interesting start.
Julesco...Trainer can have them ready.
West Hills Giant.
On dirt: Same plus Read the Proposal, Holy Endeavor.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
