Who needs handicapping? Bet Ramon! Dominguez was on fire - winning six of his seven on the days, taking an early lead in the jocks race with nine wins total through the first 31 races of the meet. Five jocks sit tied in the second spot with three wins each.
A solid crowd of 18,425 was reported - although there was plenty of elbow-room all day long. The weather was pleasant - hot if you stood in the sun, and there was plenty of that.
There was the typically good turnout for the annual hat contest. Downtown was crowded well after dark with people strolling on the warm summer evening. And a slight sprinkly passed through the area late.
A Conversation with Tom Durkin: Community members are invited to meet "the voice of NYRA" during a conversation with race track announcer Tom Durkin. Sports journalist Mike Kane will lead the discussion, which will focus on Durkin’s 20-plus years in the business. The event begins at 7pm at the Saratoga Springs Public Library and is free and open to the public.
