Attendance was 21,846. The weather was nice - partly sunny and warm. And weather was the talk of the day - with the impending arrival of Hurricane Irene sometime on Saturday evening. The National Museum of Racing - across the street from the track - issued a press release early in the day saying that they would not be open on Sunday. NYRA is waiting until Saturday to make any decision about Sunday-Monday racing.
The weather however was still excellent in Saratoga on Friday night -- shirtsleeve temps well after dark.
Gates open at 7am ET. First post is 11:35am ET.
There is a $1mil guaranteed late P4.
FIRST RACE
Keep Me Informed...This guy has shown some flashes of talent over a lightly-raced career. Long layoff but could be interesting at 7F.
Global Power...3YO raced pretty well in a similar event last time and the extra half furlong might help.
Flying z entry...Both halves seem capable on best efforts.
Nacho Saint.
SECOND RACE
Repole entry...High-priced yearling buys for connections that would surely be happy to get their Travers Day started right.
Covert Ops...Should benefit from the debut effort.
Casual Trick...Another expensive yearling purchase - and this one has a bullet work in tow.
Fire On Ice.
Awaited.
THIRD RACE
Coach Royal...Lived up to Lemon Drop Kid breeding by improving nicely on the turf.
Politicallycorrect...Sire, trainer are win-early.
Daddy Nose Best...Ran well when put on grass and stretched to two turns last time.
Anonymous Donor.
On dirt: Same plus Speightscity, Ventura Bar.
FOURTH RACE
Good Prospect...First off the claim for Chad Brown and looks to fit with these.
Hanson Heights.... Hit the lifetime best Beyer - which is good enough in here - back in April, and could be ready to get back to that in the second off the layoff.
Monzante...Class relief.
Montesquieu.
FIFTH RACE
Stellabymoonlight...By Malibu Moon - should be primed to go well with one under her belt.
Try to Catch Her...Broken Vow is another that sire's precocious runners.
Black and White...Also has some breeding - and totes the bullet work into this.
Trophy Wife.
SIXTH RACE
Sextant...Has early speed and has had some success on this track.
Flying Sappho...The turf sprints showing on her PPs are good enough to fit here.
Eden is Burning...Hit a lifetime best Beyer breaking her maiden last time. Off two months and could be ready to continue into this NW1 level.
Gambling Geraldine.
Sarah's Pleasure.
SEVENTH RACE
Deciphering Dreams...Drops back top proper level for return.
Fizzano...Both turf starts have been good.
Seattle Mission...Oy - would rate higher, but he just doesn't seem to want to win.
Atitlan.
EIGHTH RACE - Ballston Spa G2 $200K
Aviate...Ran OK in G1 Diana earlier in the meet - but is capable of better. Let's hope for a rebound to the performance shown at Churchill in May.
Romacaca...Brings in a solid 5-race win-streak.
Mekong Melody...Certainly a contender on her best - but flopped in this race last year. Negative horse-for-course?
Daveron.
NINTH RACE - Victory Ride G3 $100K
Jealous Girl...Four-race streak out of town - will try to validate that talent in here and looks capable.
Roman Treasure...Easier bunch than last time and should appreciate the cutback.
Funny Sunny...Big win last time seen on dirt.
AZ Warrior.
TENTH RACE - Ballerina G1 $250K
Sassy Image...Nice closing-kick win in the G1 Princess Rooney last time.
Hilda's Passion...Her best is very, very good -- but did toss the dud last time.
Tar Heel Mom...Solid front-end win in a G2 here early in the meet - now must get another furlong.
Tamarind Hall.
ELEVENTH RACE - Kings Bishop G1 $250K
Flashpoint...Undefeated sprinting.
Caleb's Posse...Big winner of the G2 here earlier in the meet that leads into this.
Uncle Mo...Hmmm - might make us look foolish and run away with this - just couldn't use on top given his trials and tribulations over the past few months. We'll see...
Poseidon's Warrior.
Dominus.
TWELFTH RACE - Travers G1 $1mil
Ruler On Ice...G1 Belmont winners have done well here recently. 3YO division is so up-in-the-air that we'll take a shot.
Stay Thirsty...Will be tough if able to repeat latest.
Shackleford...If he sneaks away early he could be tough to reel in.
Coil.
THIRTEENTH RACE
Cincinnati Kid...Looks to be on the improve.
Majesty's Pilgrim...Also seems in good, improving form.
Mightlover...Similar scenario to top two.
Windafull.
Fast Grievance.
