Frustration in the 5th as our top pick - Eighth Avenue, at 15-1 the longest shot in the field - came flying but just missed. We've had a handful of those types of frustrating disappointments at the meet with horses that offered double-digit value.
18,344 attended. It was still one more fine afternoon - partly sunny and warm.
Fabulous Fillies Day - Will feature a number of special events and activities designed to honor women of the thoroughbred industry while raising funds to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
FIRST RACE
Sextant...The question mark here is the layoff but go back to the comeback effort in Florida on 4/22/09. Working well for return.
Corey's Coming...Finds perhaps a little class-relief here and ran well here last year.
Exiled Princess...just missed in a similar race last time.
Lights Out Lisa.
Ms Thanksgiving.
SECOND RACE
Cadazzle...Has win-early breeding - and trainer.
My Southern Star...More of that win-early breeding.
Alseera...Also has some of that win-early breeding but trainer does only Ok in that category.
Tap for Luck.
THIRD RACE
McVictory...Scratched yesterday for this spot. Looks like a good fit.
Moontune Missy...Undefeated on dirt including a win on this oval. We might have put her on top - but trainer is a little chilly at the meet.
Gemswick Park...Needs best effort.
Southern Accents.
FOURTH RACE
Copious Notes...Worked in 10.1 before 2YO sale. Half-sib won first-out big-time at F'Lakes last year and followed with a stakes placing. Should have gotten some good education last time and will likely be prominent again with Chavez in the saddle.
Kitten's Kitten...Breeding is a little bit interesting and they shipped in off of a long string of works in Ky.
More Is More...Worked 21.3 before 2YO sale and first two were the kind to build on.
Millie Money.
FIFTH RACE
Colour the Wind...Early speed has been good the last couple of days on the grass. Might be the one to catch. Maybe.
More Is Better...Another with the possibility to be heard from early.
Storm Showers...Stretches out off of a couple of nice turf sprints.
Kathern's Kitten.
Queen Hazel.
SIXTH RACE
Long Gone...Could get the wake-up call with the drop in for a tag.
Officer Flirt...Been competitive at this level in all four starts this year.
Rani Baba...Showed good speed and improvement in latest.
Charmed.
Boatman's Dream.
SEVENTH RACE
Miss Odette...An iffy selection in an uninspiring race. This one drops from MSW to mdn clm'r -- a usually potent angle, but not quite as potent in the state-bred ranks [see #2 Bird in Hand PPs for confirmation]. BUT, the numbers he's fired in the last two are good enough. BUT, those were on turf. Head-scratcher all around.
Jacky Juice...In a field filled with duds this one is lightly-raced and has shown some life.
Sister Berta...Another dropping in for a tag.
Hear Her Roar.
EIGHTH RACE - Yaddo $100K
Chestoria...Has hit the exacta in half of her starts and seems in good form now.
Meriwether Jessica...She's competitive against open company - facing state-breds today.
You Go West Girl...Should benefit from the earlier just-miss effort at the meet.
Paraiba.
NINTH RACE
Conspicuous...Has been live in both starts at this level.
Kiss of Fire...Flopped last time but had trouble. Expect better today.
Orbiston Parva...Four different racetracks in six career starts. Ships to NY and drops to lowest level yet.
Lily's Doll.
Keith's Kitten.
