We start the 2007 Saratoga thoroughbred race meet with a mythical bankroll of $1000. Each day we'll use this space to record our mythical best bets and calculate the accumulated wins and losses.

Yesterday...

We said on Monday that Sunday was our day to shine -- but we couldn't get over the hump. There were a few plays we liked on Sunday and a Sheppard Special we felt pretty good about that went off at 10-1. If that horse, Silver Ransom could have gotten the job done it would have been the big day we needed to end the meet.

On the other hand, closing day wasn't offering us plays that generated as much confidence -- and it showed in the final tally.

We did collect on a nice little wise-guy play to end the day -- playing against the big two in the G1 Hopeful and thereby coming up with a generous late-double. But by then it was too little, too late. We gave it a solid try and came into this last week with the majority of our bankroll preserved. We took some swings over the last few days, but it just didn't work out...

We'll be back to try again next season.
