We start the 2007 Saratoga thoroughbred race meet with a mythical bankroll of $1000. Each day we'll use this space to record our mythical best bets and calculate the accumulated wins and losses.

Yesterday...

Clearly we hung our hat on Snare in the 5th. We liked him in his debut earlier this summer and he tossed in a dud but we were waiting for the return. He had some life turning into the stretch but just couldn't turn on the after-jets when the real running began. If he had gotten the job done, not only would we have had win-place money at 9-1, but we would haver collected on the Pick 3s in Races 4-6 and 5-7. It would have been a very nice day. Still might have bailed ourselves out with a nice little tri in the nightcap when our key horse won at a generous 9-2 and another of ours finished second -- but we couldn't fill the show spot in order to cash a ticket.
