4-10. Four winners on top and a couple of nice gimmicks in the bag. Winners on top in both the 1st and 2nd meant a cold early double [$28.40/$2]. And in both the 3rd and 10th our top pick won over our third and second choices for exactas and tri's [3rd, $17.20, $31.60; 10th, $109.50, $327.50].
19,103 were in attendance for a very nice afternoon weather-wise. The humidity from Saturday had dissipated and temps were very comfortable.
FIRST RACE
Most Charming...With no real standout in the field we'll take a shot here with one making a cutback to a sprint making first start off the claim for a trainer that's potent in both areas.
What's Your Point...Won last time and claimed and goes for another good first-off the claim trainer.
Mutakaway...Hasn't won in awhile but seems to fit at this level.
Tax Considerations.
SECOND RACE
Hammock...Interesting. Trainer unleashed 7-1 Pennylove to win on Sunday with a somewhat similar profile. That one had tossed in a couple of duds at Aqueduct this winter, went to the bench, and came back yesterday to win easily. This guy showed some interest in his april debut before fading, went to the bench and perhaps will also return an improved animal. Certainly the 8/13 bullet work looks promising.
Deb's Roof...And here's one that took a three-month break and did come back improved.
Saratoga Kaz...NJ-invader came to NY to face state-breds for debut and just missed. Returns and should go well again.
Biohazzard.
THIRD RACE - Saratoga Dew
Ice Cool Kitty...State-bred was probably over-matched in the G2 Del Cap. Look for a rebound to prior good form moving back in against this bunch.
Lauren's Tizzy...Won a similar event here on 8/1.
Mama Theresa...Favored vs Lauren's Tizzy in that 8/1 race. Might prove more interesting if she reverts to front-running style.
Stolen Star.
FOURTH RACE - Jena Jena
Expect the End...Has been facing open company -- including a second-place finish in a stake at Monmouth. Should appreciate NY-bred competition.
Myakka...Huge win in her second career start. $170K 2YO purchase would be no surprise to continue her winning ways.
Bet the Diva...Also looked good second-time out and is eligible to be a good one.
Jovanna.
FIFTH RACE
Jet Setting...$425K as a yearling indicates that this NY-bred caught someone's eye. Goes out for a good debut trainer.
Like a Rose...Cost $105K earlier this year. Worked in 22.3 and 21.4 prior to that auction. Mother has dropped some talented runners.
Linden Ave...Experience counts and this one ran well in the debut.
City of Lights.
SIXTH RACE
Sort of Tricky...Won on off-the-turfer convincingly here on 8/8 in what could be a key race. Some question marks since that race was meant for the grass -- but she could be any kind off of that debut. We'll know more today...
Rizzi's Twist...Typically in the hunt and they try to shake things up today with the blinkers.
Golden Elegance...Has only faced state-breds once -- and she won easily, but against lesser. Interesting.
City in the Clouds.
SEVENTH RACE
Dancing Cherokee...Speed out of the gate and leading early has been key to these turf sprints the last few days. This one has shown plenty of early foot going longer in her last two, let's see if she can clear them down the backstretch today.
Royal Spaulding...Should stalk and get first jump -- if the top pick can't hold them off late.
Rice entry...Both halves look capable on best.
Message of a Myth.
EIGHTH RACE
Classic Campaign...Mott trainee has followed the likes of Art Master and Shakis in recent starts. This is a salty bunch for an opt clm'r but the trainer's hot and the horse looks capable on his best shot.
Heat of the Night...Fits snugly into the conditions and could be interesting if able to run back to the US debut effort.
Rock Lobster...Should be heard from late.
Dreadnaught.
NINTH RACE - Classy Mirage
Cuaba...Nice win over the track here on 8/1 with a lifetime best Beyer. Could indicate a horse-for-course angle at play.
Rich Fantasy...This one is interesting coming out of a steady diet of turf stakes, now cuts back to a sprint on turf -- but don't ignore that bullet work in prep for this.
Sugar Swirl...In the hunt for a share more often than not.
Fast Deal.
TENTH RACE
League of Nations...Comes in with some solid Beyers in the last few. Also, won second start at this meet last season when stretching from 9.5F to 11F -- same as today.
Spurred...AE lister. Lightly-raced but has been in the mix in every race since the debut.
Classic Fran...Not a bad try from way, way back in the West Point Hcp. Should appreciate this company and should be a little closer early.
You're the Mon.
Banrock.
