2-9. If things had broken our way in a few of these races this could be a bang-up meet, but... On Wednesday we moved to Omeya as our top pick after Argentina scratched. Well, we won the battle but lost the war as our stand against the Pletcher favorite, Wingspan, proved correct [that one finished third], but ours just couldn't get past in the stretch and finished second at 6-1. On Thursday a similar disappointment: In the 6th, after the scratch of the likely heavy fave Vitruvius our move-up top pick was 7-1 Deputy Indy. Coming into the lane it looked like that one was going to go by our move-up second selection, 5-2 Extreme Supreme, but Extreme proved very game and just held ours off. We'll take solace in the fact that our reverse exacta paid a generous $53.50/$2.
Summer temps worked back into the area as the afternoon progressed. The cooler temps of the previous few days still hung in the air early -- but by race-time things had warmed up and by mid-card it was feeling more like the warm and humid weather from earlier in the meet. 18,043 enjoyed the day at the track.
FIRST RACE
Brian's Cat Can Do...Not exactly thrilled taking a ten-time loser -- but he looks capable in this field based on his Beyers. Iffy pick however.
Tee With the Tiger...Similar to top pick. Has had his chances -- and failed, but looks capable on best. Maybe today.
Galaxy Express...Showed some early foot last year. Could prove interesting if able to regain that form.
Sky Dragon.
On dirt: Will Never Bend, Cardiff Road, Galaxy Express, Brian's Cat Can Do, Tee With the Tiger.
SECOND RACE
Cato Major...Precociously bred and has some decent works.
Delta Weekend...Closed well in debut. Cost $100K as a 2YO after working 10.4 and 102. at that sale.
Libor Rate...Look out, this one could be live! Cost a hefty $230K at a 2YO sale after working in 10.3. Half-sib Bianco was a winner and also stakes--placed as a 2YO.
Equally.
THIRD RACE
Altesse...Second to the very talented Lady Joanne last time.
A True Pussycat...Solid 4YO stakes-winner makes the turf-to-dirt move.
Leo's Pegasus...Well behind top pick last time but hasn't missed the board this year.
Soul Search.
FOURTH RACE
Survived...AE lister. Ran in for a G3 two back and now drops in for a tag.
Cagey Girl...State-bred moves into an open claimer and could be the one to catch.
Miss Buddhafull...Should be rolling late.
Absolute Heaven.
Jocasse.
On dirt: Bourne First, Mustang Cali, Cagey Girl, Survived, Sneaky Girl, Pure White.
FIFTH RACE
Artytheonemanparty...Trainer is solid with firsters at Saratoga and this one is working well. Sold at a 2YO sale after working in 22.1 and 21.3.
Brave and Skillful...Another 2YO purchase and worked 10.3 and 21.4 for the sale. Goes first-out for Mott.
Philharmonic...Could be dangerous on the move from MSW to mdn clm'r.
BB Frank.
SIXTH RACE
Pure Tantrum...Had some trouble at the start in debut but still ran well. Could be tough with the education under his belt.
Legal Tender...AE lister. Has tossed some good numbers.
Prime Obsession...Added the blinkers last time and tossed in his best try yet.
Aly's Tough.
Raffie's Deer.
SEVENTH RACE
Premium Wine...Nice career in only four starts so far -- and looks to be improving.
I'm a Numbers Guy...Won a stake in his second start and they've been ambitious with him since. Moves from NY-bred stake and should fit with these.
Whistlin'...Another very consistent state-bred.
Ferocious Won.
EIGHTH RACE
Storm Boot Gold...This is a wide-open event and we'll give this one a slight nod based on the nice win over the track last time.
Pegase Jem...If the speed folds this one might pick up the pieces.
Auto City...Solid win here on 8/1 -- but that was on dirt. Will be tough if he takes to the grass.
Johnny Hollywood.
Acclimate.
On dirt; Storm Boot Gold, Auto City, Dutrow entry, Time to Grow Up.
NINTH RACE - Personal Ensign G1
Unbridled Belle...Has she turned the corner this year -- or did she just appreciated Delaware? We'll know more today.
Sugar Shake...Hasn't missed a piece of the action in awhile. Distance is a question mark though.
Indian Vale...Likes the track and should rebound from the Delaware flop.
Miss Shop.
TENTH RACE
Executive Fleet...Tossed in a little bit of a clunker last time. Now moves back to dirt and drops into a conditional claimer.
Tahoe Warrior...And this one made that turf-to-dirt and drop to conditional clm'r move last time and looked good.
Champchu...Drops back to a sprint and that bullet on 8/13 might indicate intent.
Ocean Forest.
