It's a horse race! Four handicappers are bunched at the top with 52 winners after eighteen days. Two more have also reached the half-century mark. And another handful are in close pursuit with 45 or better.
This season is similar to 2006 at the halfway point -- the top scorer at this time last year had 48 winners on top [with nine less races because of the card canceled due to extreme heat]. It's interesting though to go back and look at 2004 and 2005 and see that the mid-point leaders in those seasons had 64 and 67 winners respectively.
You can view the entire 2006, 2005 and 2004 mid-season scorecards for a more complete comparison.
As for our own numbers -- Best Bets is clearly in come-from-behind mode.. Looking back to the 2004 season however, we selected 65 winners during the final eighteen racing days. We'll need another late run of that magnitude to get us into Top Ten territory.
Note: Discrepancies in total number of races played is due to some handicappers losing races due to scratches.

17,607 attended what might have been the nicest day of the meet so far. The weather was picture perfect all around and the crowd left some elbow that made it a truly enoyable day at the races.
Later on Monday evening it was the annual Jockeys vs State Troopers softball game with the jockeys prevailing buy one run.
