2-10. As far as winners-on-top, we've had a handful of good days but mostly we're still treading water. But looking deeper at the results, it's no reason to panic, and the slightest of juggling using the selections has produced nice results on a number of occasions. Saturday was a good example. Only two winners-on-top, but our top choice ran second in another four races. Our second choice won three -- including the 1st at 14-1, which kicked off a double consisting of our second selections that paid $74.00/$2. Our top two combined for the reverse exacta in the 4th ($14.00/$2; quinella, $7.30). Our top choice and our third pick teamed up for a couple of nice exactas (5th, $25.20; 8th, $64.00). And our top three produced the boxed tri in the nightcap ($161.50).
So, we'll plug along and hope that our racing luck changes a little bit as far as the winners category. Otherwise, all systems are 'go'.
Attendance was a very solid 31,742 on yet another great day. The sun was shining and temps were in the 80's.
Friday's attendance figures were not published in the initial charts -- but the total was 19,151.
It's folding chair giveaway day. Free with each paid admission while supplies last. And it's NFL Alumni day with some former gridiron greats signing autographs from 11am - 12:30pm.
FIRST RACE
Angelic Aura...Trainer hasn't started many at the meet -- but those he has have been live. This guy was running well in stakes late last year. Now goes for $20K which is a concern -- but he's the one to beat if all the wheels are on.
Lethimthinkhesboss...Another that is dropping after showing ability against better not too long ago.
Wood Winner...Just nipped at 38-1 here on 7/28. An aberration or a sign that he's in top form right now? Hmmm...
White Buck.
SECOND RACE
Boxitup...This gal has shown some life since returning from a break -- and that's a lot more than most in here!
Crusader's Code...Her start up here last time was not impressive -- but two before that would fit with these.
Pretty Gal...Tossed a dud in career debut but not switches to grass and stretches out -- and you could do worse than go with a second-time starter vs this bunch.
Provided For.
THIRD RACE
Bill Place...Won a G3 in April now drops in for a $100K tag. Should be tough.
Digger...Another that has been knocking around stakes company this year and now goes for a tag.
Spirit of Gulch...A couple of nice, improving starts since switching to dirt.
Rockaway Tod.
FOURTH RACE
Posted...That last Beyer is so high that it looks out of whack -- but he could drop 20 points off of that and still take these.
Winaway...Toss the turf experiment and this guy should be right there.
Crescent's Joker...Has shown some flashes of ability at this level.
Love Aborad.
FIFTH RACE
Raw Silk...Expensive purchase at 2YO sale in February. Worked in 10.2 there. Nice, steady works in prep for this.
Matchless Orinda...Sold at same sale as top pick -- also for a good price. Also worked in 10.2. First-out for Pletcher.
Mamaste's Wish...Drew $600K as a yearling. Should have gotten some education last time. Adds blinkers for Mott.
Banner Day.
SIXTH RACE
Nordberg...Been stuck at this level for a long time, which is a concern. But going well lately and just missed in turf sprint last time. Should be in a good stalking position early.
Heavenly Anna...Cutting back from longer. Won this track and trip last year.
Tomorrow's Nano...All three starts this year have been good. Must overcome outside post.
Positive Charge.
SEVENTH RACE
Silver Ransom...Could be primed to run a good one from an outfit that usually tosses a bomb or two at this meet each year.
Crystal Minuet...Looks to be on the improve for Mott.
Final Refrain...Last was best yet.
Stellar Night.
EIGHTH RACE
Quota...Looked good in her first two starts. Might be able to sail through this condition on first try against this bunch.
Bedside Story...Three-time winner is in for a tag and comes into this in fine form. Won on this track last year.
Scatkey...Probably over-matched in latest. Might be in the hunt with a rebound to form shown earlier this year.
Zippy Missy.
NINTH RACE - West Point Hcp
Golden Commander...This guy gets a slight nod in a race where you can make a case for a bunch of them. He was a decent, closing fourth at 9-5 in this race last year after having some traffic trouble. His last doesn't look to good -- but it was behind Sunriver. State-breds should be more to his liking.
Dave...This one was in that same Sunriver race two back and followed-up with a near-miss against NY-breds.
Foreverness...Beat Dave last time -- but the distance is perhaps a little bit of a knock.
Red Zipper.
TENTH RACE
New York Dixie...Was facing open company for most of her career -- in fact she finishes first in a race at Fair Grounds, only to be DQ'd. Surprised she hasn't broken through in two starts against state-breds -- but maybe today's her day vs this weak bunch.
Bardot...A first-time starter doesn't have to be much to compete with these.
La Gioia Ditutti...Not much last time but the two before were promising.
Lady Alice.
