We did have a cold tri at the Fairgrounds and a tri at Laurel with our top pick over our third and second choices -- but when we grabbed the gimmicks they value was a little slim this week. Still we weren't beaten badly with the plays -- and we had three in the top four in a couple of races without getting the tri. A little nudge in either of those contests and we're in the black.
Essentially a decent start to the new year.

Note: The 2006 archive is being updated. We got behind on things over the past couple of months -- but it's important to us to allow you to see the results. We'll try to keep up with 2007 results more efficiently. Stay tuned however, 2006 will be totaled and posted soon [archive link always at the bottom of this page].
We only hit one -- but it was enough to propel us to a solid 58% ROI.

Pink Viper 8-1
Johannesburg 6-5*
Sir Whimsey 5-1
Summer Doldrums scratched.
Wager: $5 WP on No Reply.
Ran 4th at 5-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-4.
...$1 tri key No Reply over next three.
Ran 4/2-5.
...$1 tri key Johannesburg Star over next three.
Ran 2/4-5.
No Reply...Looks to be improving each start for McLaughlin/Darley. Last might signal he's turned the corner and now ready for this assignment -- but it was on off-the-turfer, so he has something to prove. We'll see.
Johannesburg Star...Likely fave off of the big number win last time -- but it was so big it has the look of something of an aberration. Another that we'll know more about by the end of the day.
Summer Doldrums...Faltered in stakes debut -- but this bunch might be slightly easier.
Believeinmenow.
Kelly's Landing 2-1*
High Finance 5-2
Mach Ride 7-1

Collected $12.40 on the ex box [$24.80/$2].
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-6.
High Finance...Been wide the last two but Bejarano and the rail should help. Adds blinkers. Tough call but he's shown flashes -- including big win off two month break at Saratoga.
Paradise Dancer...Was a little farther off the pace than usual last time. Can trainer Ziadie keep the red-hot streak going [he finished Calder's meet winning 53%]?
Weigelia...Big win in a G3 last time.
Kelly's Landing.
Classic Campaign 6-1
Dreadnaught 10-1
Saint Stephen 3-1*

...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-6-10.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-6-10.
Classic Campaign...Had a two-race streak snapped last time after a poor start. As Dick Powell wrote on BRIS, closers do well when the rail is placed outside on this track and this Mott trainee has been rolling late in his last few. We'll take a shot.
Ballast...Logical contender off of solid stakes win at Calder in last.
Old Dodge...In good form and could be interesting on the stretchout.
Saint Stephen.
Chatain 7-1
Sir Greeley 5-2
Sweetnorthernsaint 6-5*

Ran 3-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-5.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-5.
Sweetnorthensaint...Prepping for some of the bigger stakes on the Gulfstream calendar -- but comebacker and follow-up were solid and is working light's out.
Rehoboth...In top form last three. Cuts back to one-tunr mile but is 2-2 at the trip -- albeit around two-turns.
Strong Contender...Another aiming for later stakes -- but could be any kind off of 3YO form. Facing older for first time however.
Chatain.
Summer Cruise 4-1
Rgirldoesn'tbluff 4-5*
Taylor Madison 9-1

Collected $12.50 on the ex box [$25.00/$2].
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-10.
Rgirldoesn'tbluff...A solid season for horse and trainer and a bang-up work three days ago.
Send Me an Angel...Another that is typically in the hunt.
Truly Blushed...Coming in off of a couple of nice turf sprints.
Summer Cruise.
Laila's Punch 8-5*
Luxury Class 2-1
Deep Dish Wildcat 9-2
Wager: $5 WP on Laila's Punch.

...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $9.60 on the ex box [$19.20/$2].
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $28.80 on the tri box [$57.60/$2].
Laila's Punch...Debuted in a stake and flopped but followed-up with a solid maiden win. Should be ready for this assignment.
Deep Dish Wildcat...Looks like she benefitted from the layoff.
Luxury Class...Only blemish was an off-the-turfer at Saratoga.
Conja.
Sandburr 9-2
Jonesboro 2-1
Patriot Act 4-5*
Wager: $5 WP on Sandburr.
Collected $38.00 on the WP [11.00, 4.20].

...$1 tri key Sandburr over next three.
Collected $29.80 on the tri key [$59.60/$2].
...$1 tri key Jonesboro over next three.
Ran 2/1-3-6.
Sandburr...On the improve since returning from a short summer break. A little cheaper than a couple of these but might be ready to pop.
Jonesboro...In-and-outer comes off of a big effort -- at Delta Downs. Capable on best.
Patriot Act...Solid breeding and connections and looks like the one to beat.
Middleweight.
Baroness Thatcher 3-1
Runway Rosie 6-1
Mistical Plan 6-5*
Le Crique scratched.

Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-4-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 3-4-6.
Le Cirque...Taking a little bit of a flyer here on debut maiden winner. Closed a ton on the Hollywood but with Dynaformer on top should handle the dirt as well and it looks like there should be some speed to shoot at. With only one start there might be some interesting upside potential here.
Mistical Plan...Tossed in a dud last time after showing some promise. That was the first around two-turns and the first on the synthetic surface. So there are questions to be answered.
Seaside Affair...Debut effort was solid. Followed with two less solid tries in NY -- but last in SoCal could indicates she's gotten the hang of it.
Setafire.
Dixie Meister 3-1
Armenian Summer 14-1
Preachinatthebar 5-2
Wager: $5 WP on Dixie Meister.
Collected $31.00 on the WP [$8.00, 4.40].

Ran 1-3-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-6.
Dixie Meister...Like the confidence shown in bringing him back in the G1 Cigar Mile.
Preachinatthebar...Should be heard from in this event and is working well.
Spellbinder...Close-up third in this race last year.
Cheroot.
