Coast-to-coast

We did have a cold tri at the Fairgrounds and a tri at Laurel with our top pick over our third and second choices -- but when we grabbed the gimmicks they value was a little slim this week. Still we weren't beaten badly with the plays -- and we had three in the top four in a couple of races without getting the tri. A little nudge in either of those contests and we're in the black.

Essentially a decent start to the new year.

Johannesburg Star...Likely fave off of the big number win last time -- but it was so big it has the look of something of an aberration. Another that we'll know more about by the end of the day.
Summer Doldrums...Faltered in stakes debut -- but this bunch might be slightly easier.

Weigelia...Big win in a G3 last time.

Classic Campaign...Had a two-race streak snapped last time after a poor start. As Dick Powell wrote on BRIS, closers do well when the rail is placed outside on this track and this Mott trainee has been rolling late in his last few. We'll take a shot.
Ballast...Logical contender off of solid stakes win at Calder in last.
Old Dodge...In good form and could be interesting on the stretchout.

Strong Contender...Another aiming for later stakes -- but could be any kind off of 3YO form. Facing older for first time however.

Le Cirque...Taking a little bit of a flyer here on debut maiden winner. Closed a ton on the Hollywood but with Dynaformer on top should handle the dirt as well and it looks like there should be some speed to shoot at. With only one start there might be some interesting upside potential here.
Mistical Plan...Tossed in a dud last time after showing some promise. That was the first around two-turns and the first on the synthetic surface. So there are questions to be answered.
Seaside Affair...Debut effort was solid. Followed with two less solid tries in NY -- but last in SoCal could indicates she's gotten the hang of it.
