2-10. Two winners on top [3rd, $5.70; 8th, $2.90]. Plus, we had a couple of reverse exactas [1st, $28.80/$2; 7th, $14.40]. And, after scratches we were left with only three selections in the off-the-turf finale and those three boxed for the $300.50 tri.
The weather was rather unpleasant -- cool and drizzly all day. all turf races were moved to the main track. 12,675 attended.
FIRST RACE
Metro Meteor...Trainer Linda rice has made a specialty of these turf sprints at this meet. Comes out of the competitive NY-bred stake earlier in the meet and should appreciate the cutback.
Apollo Jones...Three good turf sprint try since springtime.
Payment in Kind...Should be set up to run a good one in third start of 2006.
Wedding Singer.
On dirt: Hither Lane, Bound Notebook, Barcola, Bogota Bill, Guns Drawn, Wedding Singer.
SECOND RACE
Iron Goddess...Attracted a quarter of a million as a yearling -- solid for a state-bred. Working well for debut.
Children's Annex...Was showing good improvement in first three starts then regressed slightly last time -- but perhaps the blinkers made that difference. Drops the hood today.
In the Service...Showed speed going longer -- might be interesting on the cutback.
Hickory Stick.
THIRD RACE - Saratoga Dew $70K
Judy Soda...Went back and forth between this gal and the second selection -- finally settled here as she is clearly more dirt meant. But it really looks like one of these two can sneak away early and run away from this short field.
Cayuga's Waters...Wired a field convincingly over this track last summer. They can't let her get away.
Shady Lane...If the top two falter this one can pick up the pieces.
Stolen Star.
FOURTH RACE
Wynsome Wesley...Finished third despite some trouble in a decent debut. Filly that won the race just missed in a NW1 this week.
I Can Hear You Now...Goes out for Pletcher -- which automatically makes her dangerous. The 7/15 bullet over the training track shows she has some speed.
Black Velvet Band...Should improve off of the first start.
Megan's World.
FIFTH RACE
Erdiston...AE lister. Has been improving in each of four starts. Broke maiden two back and just missed at this level last time. Should benefit from that experience.
King Hoss...AE lister. Speed and fade last two times this level. This type is always capable of getting brave and not stopping one day.
Grosvenor Square...Good try when dropped in against this kind last time.
Cradle Robber.
Dr Eli.
Whoopi Again.
On dirt: Cradle Robber, Bredwinner, Whoopi Again, Res Ipsa.
SIXTH RACE
Whatdreamsrmadeof...Sire is off to a good start from a limited sample. Has show a little bit of potential in the morning and might come out running.
Kall Me K...Tossed in a real clunker in the debut but has shown some interest in the morning since and might offer some interesting value in here.
City Zipper...City Zip on top -- could have some early speed.
Albert's Kid.
SEVENTH RACE
Play Ballado...This filly just might be better than these -- but she also might need one off of the layoff.
Platinee...Nice improvement start #1 to start #2 of 2006. Another move forward will make her dangerous.
Pleasant Laughter...Better than her latest.
Unkatzable.
EIGHTH RACE - Rumpipumpy $70K
Steel Buns...Comes off of a little layoff but has had some previous breaks and has bounced back nicely. She'll be tough if ready.
Grand Opening...Group-placed in France. Adds blinkers and might be ready to run a big one.
Marchonin...Might be getting some class relief today and that's sometimes enough to wake them up.
Pyrana.
Moonshine Gal.
On dirt: Carmandia, Pleasant Chimes, Lady Pegasus, Marchonin.
NINTH RACE
Summer Journey...The nice work on 8/19 and the drop attract our interest in here.
Cash Flow...Another that should appreciate the drop.
Honour Old Glory...Similar scenario here -- bullet work on 8/17 and a drop in price.
Gorgeous Mistress.
