NOTE: Apologies for our late posting today. ...Still well before first-race post -- but we know readers like to have access to the selections early in the day so they can print them up before leaving for the track or simo-facility. Technical difficulties today. Computers... Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em...
2-9. Two winners on top [2nd, $6.30; 7th, $7.60]. Should have had one more -- we scratched into the Pletcher horse in the 6th, but it was a claiming race and we noted our aversion to Pletcher claimers in yesterdays' comments. On-track we shifted our focused to our move-up second choice and that was the eventual winner, at a fair 3-1. The Pletcher horse ran fourth as the 5-2 fave. Again, tread lightly with Pletcher claimers. We just got stuck after the scratch.
A couple of gimmicks to be had with the selections, highlighted by the cold exacta in the 7th [$24.60/$2] -- with our third pick just missing the show photo at 18-1!
Yet another beautiful day. After some dicing weather to start the meet -- with extreme heat and humidity -- the last week has been 'two thumb's up'! 20, 751 turned out to enjoy the day.
FIRST RACE
Zhukov...Scored in his first US jump try. Might be ready for this condition.
Sheppard entry...Both Luongo and Sovereign Duty will need their best -- but both have shown flashes in the past.
Voss entry...Ginz Neatly fits into the condition and actually might have a class edge on these. Dynaway looks to have gotten the hang of it.
Frecuente.
SECOND RACE
A Wonder She Is...Another 2YO sale purchase from Klaravich/Violette. Iceman Cometh just missed yesterday.
My Golden Quest...2YO firster from Pletcher/Velazquez. 'Nuff said.
This Just In...Has had troubled starts in first two. Expect improvement. Worked a bullet just two days ago!
Total.
THIRD RACE
Indian War Dance...This is a wide open race and as such we're hoping to get some value on this guy off of the two duds so far this year. Third start off of a long layoff and might wake-up with the drop in for a tag. Again though -- this is a wide open affair where you should demand some value from your choice.
So Swanky...Was going well to start the season. Toss latest and this one fits here.
Nerinx...If he can repeat the big Beyer from last he'll be tough.
Infinite Glory/Em B Aye.
FOURTH RACE
Elusive Fox...Must overcome the outside post but works and breeding indicate that he should be a contender first time out of the box.
Defrereoftheheart...Again, just keying on the breeding and the works. And trainer can have them ready.
Stormy Success...More of the same logic.
Hercules/Huge City.
Time Piece.
FIFTH RACE
Cleverly Regal...Best race was her debut -- on a 'fast' track. Next two were on 'muddy-sealed' tracks. Let's look for a rebound on a dry surface.
Crush N Run...Another that might appreciate the 'fast' going.
Raisin' Silver...A wake-up might be possible moving out of MSW ranks.
Gem Road.
Ethics Aside.
SIXTH RACE
Gospel Singer...Showed some promise in first three. Last was a dud -- but in against pretty salty field that day. Looking for a rebound to prior good form dropping in for a tag.
Hey Gorgeous...Another that should appreciate the claiming company.
Cheerily...Thought enough of her to try a G1 earlier this season. Now second time in for a tag.
Moneypenny.
Undeniably Silver.
SEVENTH RACE
Penny Dream...The four turf races last year were easily good enough to take this. BUT -- tossed a dud in 2006 debut. Hmmm. We'll hope for a wake-up in the second start back and dropping in for a tag.
Square Dancing...Perhaps a little over-matched in stakes last time. Re-unites with Prado.
Moorebella...Hasn't missed the board this year.
Baymont.
EIGHTH RACE - Adirondack G2 $200K
King of the Roxy...SoCal shipper should compete first-time out of the Pletcher barn.
Teuflesberg...Almost shocked Scat Daddy on G2 Sanford. Dangerous.
Shermanesque...Second last time to the very talented Circular Quay.
Chace City.
NINTH RACE
Storm Prospector...In a field with many stuck at this condition this guy is fairly lightly raced and looks to be in good, improving form. Tough if he takes to the surface.
Storm N Lightning...Find this one very interesting cutting back to a sprint. Check out the quick pace this one pushed three back.
Cozadoro...Also interesting cutting back from two turns.
Defrizz.
