2-10. Two winners on top [1st, $5.30; 4th, $5.30]. In the 1st our third and fourth choices came in under our top pick to complete a $113.00/$2 tri. And for the second day in a row our second, third, and fourth picks ran 1-2-3 in the feature -- with our top pick, the favorite, running out -- for pretty decent prices [exacta $47.80/$2; tri $156.50/$2]. Not a bad deal if you wanted to take a stand against Artie Schiller -- although it was hard to imagine he would miss the trifecta in a five-horse field!
The weather was excellent and announced attendance was 60,948 -- although with a T-shirt giveaway that number is "spinner"-inflated.
The 2006 class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at 10:30am. The public is invited to attend. The ceremony will be held at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion on East Avenue.
Beginning at 2:30pm, racing fans will be given the opportunity to meet returning members of the Hall of Fame for a free autograph session held in front of the silks display area of the jockey's room.
FIRST RACE
Mountain General...Race is full of question marks but this one comes in in good form, has been facing slightly better and likes the track. Tepid vote.
Atouratoura...Has some ability on his best effort -- and might be ready for that in third start off of layoff.
Paris Adventure...Through in a couple clunkers this spring. Took a break and ran well in return.
Exploit Lad.
Concorde's Edge.
SECOND RACE
My Pizazz...Forest Camp youngsters have come out running and solid string of works for trainer who wins these turf sprints.
Three Lions...Pletcher 2YO likely to be ready to roll in debut.
Mont Juleps...Pretty good try last time despite trouble -- and a positive jock switch today.
Yankee Bay.
THIRD RACE
Trailing Twelve...Was facing some good ones earlier -- and grabbed a win last time when dropped in for a tag.
Mister Supreme...Trouble in a small stakes in latest -- but prior form says he fits here.
Devil's Flight...Has some early speed and might find a little bit of class relief here.
Ocean Forest.
FOURTH RACE
Indian Camp...Another Forest Camp firster, this one from win-early Biancone. Nice, steady string of works.
Baltimore Drive...Working well in SoCal. Shipped east to face state-breds.
Hoopdeescoo...Bullet work four days ago sticks out.
Zip to the City.
FIFTH RACE
Sarah Sunshine...Just missed in solid debut. Fast work in prep for this.
Fortynine Below...Two good races so far. Looks like the one to beat.
Stag Dancer...Longtime maiden has been hitting the board recently.
Zip Stream.
Crazyluck.
On dirt: Dixieland Squall, Accrediting, Scatkey, Stag Dancer, Super Diva.
SIXTH RACE
Handlewoman...Lightly raced and probably too good to still be eligible for this condition.
Endless Virtue...Good, improving form since springtime.
Klepto Cat...Maiden-breaker was promising then flopped in last. We'll know more after today as to which was the true effort.
Golden Knolls.
SEVENTH RACE
Most Beautiful...Has high early speed. Tries grass for first time but More Than Ready's do well on that surface.
Be a Believer...Might offer some value. The 8/1 work indicates she might be ready to roll.
Resound...Should be rolling late -- but at this trip will it be too late?
Smart Crowd.
EIGHTH RACE - Hall of Fame G2 $150K
After Market...Can't fault the career so far. Only three starts and already a stakes winner.
Brilliant...Has yet to miss the board in eight career starts -- and is undefeated on grass in three of those races.
Manchu Prince...His gig is a big closing punch -- but Johnny V will have to try to save some ground early on the inner course.
Spider Power.
On dirt: After Market, Brilliant, Cotton King, Green Lemon.
NINTH RACE
Silent Bid...Taking a stab at an upset in here. The race looks fairly wide-open so why not? Lukas runner showed some flashes last year. Two races this season were complete duds. But is now making third start of 2006, drops in for a tag, and that work over the deep training track on 7/30 says he might be the one to catch.
Pleasant Fiction...Like the top pick, first time in for a tag and expect a wake-up with the class relief.
Fortunate Storm...And, like the top pick, this one is third off a layoff and has some early foot -- which might put the ki-bosh on our choice.
